Out In The Cold cerné d’étoiles.

After Silent Skrik, which had been released in 2015, Anom is the second - official - record of Waterwalls, Xavier Ridel’s solo project. This record has been released without any singles, neither videoclips, to preserve « the purity of an instinctive gesture, that has no commercial aim, no goal to promote the self».
The title Anom is inspired by the concept of anomia, developed by the sociologist Emile Durkheim, but it is also - above all - a reference to Mona, a girl Xavier used to know.
Exclusively written, recorded and mixed alone, Anom is a complex record, which hardly fits into one genre. You can find raging post punk, blues and almost jazzy ambiances, melancholic electro pop / cold wave, ethereal folk and field recordings (pitched gregorian chants, crowd noises, movies extracts…) which bring a new stone to the edifice. This record, behind its pop side, never loses its part of sincerity and of profound honesty - both in form and in substance.
It opens on the ageless pain of Strong, introduced by an extract of Illuminations (Arthur Rimbaud’s last book), extends itself on burnt landscapes with Anom and ends on a starry night with Out In The Cold. And the heart of the record might be here : to frontally observe the weight of loss and of a world in flames, to finally achieve to concentrate again on the light.
